Between 2018-19, as much as 3.3 million metric tonnes of plastic waste was generated in India — according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report. That roughly translated to 9,200 tonnes a day! The figures may rise in the coming years. To avert an environmental crisis, we need clear plans and visions, political will and the nerve to pull off a balancing act. The solution to India’s problems with plastic waste can be addressed with ensuring sustained efforts to cut down plastic consumption, along with targeted investments in recycling plastic.
